How does distance healing work?

Research has shown that distance healing, or remote healing, can demonstrate significant positive effects in randomized controlled trials. Studies have explored its measurable impact not only on humans, but also on animals, plants, bacteria, cells in the laboratory, and even DNA. Here is how it works.

What is distance or remote healing?

In distant healing a healing practitioner connects energetically to a recipient with the focused intention of flowing positive energy for their highest good. The healer has trained to access healing energy with a fast vibration and directs this energy to the recipient for a set period of time.  It has been shown to be beneficial for physical, mental and emotional health issues.

How can practitioners connect when the person isn’t physically present?

We, and everything in the universe, are all made up of energy vibrating at specific frequencies. Modern physics can measure some of this energy. In our normal waking state, we are only able to perceive a small portion of those energies through our 5 senses. This shapes what we see as the sum total of the physical world.

Quantum physics shows that in fact there are an infinite number of energy patterns surrounding us. Distance healing involves connecting with another person at this non-physical energy level.

Because we are all part of one consciousness, we are already interconnected at an energetic level.  When a practitioner sends healing energy remotely, they are focusing on and strengthening the connection with that individual using emotion and clear intention. Distance does not limit this; energy healing can take place across any distance, small or vast. The energy is transferred via the Zero Point Field – the field in which everything in the universe exists.

What is the healing doing for the recipient?

The healer flows high-frequency healing energy to the recipient. The recipient, or strictly speaking the Inner Being (the core non-physical or spiritual self) of the recipient, is pulling the energy in. It helps re-balance the energy body – the network of meridians and chakras. An easy way to visualise this is to imagine the energy like warm water flushing blockages out the client’s ‘energetic pipework’. This has a positive effect on the physical, emotional, and mental systems.

The result is often deep relaxation, emotional balance and increased vitality. It usually has a calming effect, reducing stress and anxiety. Significantly, it can trigger body’s own natural healing mechanisms and accelerate recovery.

After surgery or medical treatment, energy healing — whether in-person or by distance — has been shown to speed up recovery. It can also help to reduce anxiety, and boost overall wellbeing. Many hospitals worldwide are integrating therapies like Reiki alongside conventional medicine. Read more about the use of Reiki in hospitals

How does a distance healing session take place?

This can vary from practitioner to practitioner. In my case, I provide distance healing in 2 ways: via Skype or similar online video system, or by using a photograph of the recipient. Both are techniques to build the remote energy connection, through which the healing energy will flow. It may help to visualise this as an ‘energy bridge’ flowing from my Inner Being (my core non-physical or spiritual self) to the Inner Being of the recipient, via the Zero Point Field.

In fact, this energetic connection begins to develop the moment the client reaches out to book a distance healing. The energy bridge strengthens during the face-to-face video call, providing an open channel for the healing energy to flow.

Remote healing via video session:
This allows us to be able to see and speak to each other before the healing begins. I can also discuss and fully understand the issues that the client is wanting help with before the healing starts. It enables me to offer additional guidance, self-help tools, and techniques to support the healing process afterwards. Seeing and talking to the client also helps strengthen the energetic connection. After the initial conversation, I ask the client to lie down in a comfortable place, ideally where I can still see them on the screen.

Using a photograph for distance healing:
It’s also possible to send healing using just a photograph of the recipient. It’s the easiest way when sending healing to a child or someone who is incapacitated. Sometimes a client prefers not to discuss the issues that are troubling them. They just want an energy boost to help them feel better. I use the photo to strengthen my energetic connection to the person for the duration of the session.

Benefits of Distance Healing:
I have worked with distance healing for over 18 years with positive outcomes you can read about in my client testimonials. One major advantage is that the recipient can relax in the comfort of their own home. Distance healing is ideal for people with mobility issues. It also allows recipients anywhere in the world to receive a session. After the session, they can continue to rest and let the healing energy integrate without the need to go anywhere.

Distance healing is especially effective with Reconnective Healing, as it doesn’t require physical contact. During online sessions, I offer the option of vocal sound healing to help anchor and physicalise the healing energy. The recipient’s body responds both to the sound they hear and the vibration it creates at a cellular level. I send a recording of the sound healing afterwards, so they can continue connecting to the healing vibration.

Benefits of In-Person Healing:
Physical presence allows for hands-on contact, which can be comforting, reassuring and nurturing. Certain techniques, such as Access Consciousness Bars — a technique particularly helpful for relieving stress and anxiety — require direct touch and can only be done in person.

Some people may find it hard to accept that distance healing energy can reach them remotely. Therefore, even when they feel sensations during the session, their mind may dismiss it as coincidence or imagination. For these individuals, an in-person healing session can offer more reassurance and comfort. It may help them become more receptive to the healing energy.

However, it can be very exciting when someone who is initially skeptical chooses to try a distance healing session. They are then is amazed by the powerful sensations and deep relaxation they experience!

In the vast majority of cases, clients report feeling significant benefit. My Distance healing testimonials share real experiences and outcomes.

As with all healing, two things influence results. Firstly, the healer’s ability to connect with the energy. The healer’s level of training, experience and spiritual connection can have a bearing on the strength of the energy flow. Secondly, the recipient’s readiness to allow a shift to take place within them at both a conscious and unconscious level. Some people are uncomfortable with change, even when it’s for the better. Sometimes long term illness or pain can become part of a person’s identity without them realising.

Sometimes clients have experienced dramatic physical healing after just one session, as the client reviews show. But often more than one session is required, as with other forms of healing. There is a limit to how much energetic shift can take place in just one session.

Serious physical issues often require several healing sessions. I would normally recommend 3 sessions in these cases. The client may choose to have one session first to assess how much benefit they feel.

Occasionally there may be an emotional or mental issue at the root of physical problems. The person might not yet be ready to let go of it. So the first session might get the person started in understanding the issue and begin the process of letting go. A second session might take them further in releasing whatever is bringing them out of balance.

On some occasions, the client may have unresolved emotional trauma, usually from the past. This often contributes to their ill health.

In these cases, I would suggest a session of the Blast Technique. Blast can be very effective at reprocessing and resolving the difficult emotions relating to trauma. The Blast Technique is also available remotely online.

If the recipient is resistant to change or unconsciously holding onto patterns that led to their condition, healing may be less effective. This is true for all healing modalities, not just remote ones.

In chronic conditions like Fibromyalgia, ME and CFS, distance healing can still provide pain relief and improve wellbeing. But the root causes may require deeper emotional or mental work. Techniques like OldPain2Go can also help address persistent conditions at the subconscious level and get to the root.

When a person sends distance healing, the focus is purely on the recipient’s greater good. Furthermore, a healer is only every offering the healing energy. It’s not possible to force healing on someone. For the best results, it’s ideal if the recipient chooses it or is at least aware the healing is being sent. Then they are likely to be more receptive.

In cases where the recipient cannot give consent — such as a child or someone incapacitated — it’s appropriate for a family member to request healing on their behalf.

Research into distance healing has shown statistically significant benefits in a range of studies, from heart patients to AIDS sufferers. Read one such study here: A 2008 study on distant intention and healing

The distant healing study below by Psychiatrist Dr Daniel J Benor highlights compelling evidence for the effectiveness of distant energy healing. It covers a wide range of studies involving humans, animals, plants, and even cells in the laboratory. In rigorously designed experiments — including randomized, double-blind, and controlled trials — distant healing repeatedly produced significant health benefits. These included faster recovery from illness, fewer complications, and improved wellbeing, regardless of distance between sender and recipient. The findings suggest that healing intention may act as a non-local force, independent of physical contact or proximity. Distant Healing Study by Dr Daniel J Benor

Despite these promising results, there isn’t a great deal of research in this field. Scientists are often skeptical of Distant healing. This makes it difficult to secure funding, academic support, and publication opportunities in conventional medical journals.
